Simpang renggam: The towns of Simpang Renggam, Kluang, and Mersing in Johor, as well as Dabong in Kelantan, and Lipis and Raub in Pahang, are among the ten towns that received the Happiest Town Award for 2026 today. Also listed are Kuala Terengganu City, Marang, and Permaisuri in Terengganu, and Ranau in Sabah, which received the award from Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the measurement of the Urban Happiness Level in Malaysia is integrated with the Malaysia Happiness Index, implemented by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Nga Kor Ming emphasized that this integration ensures a comprehensive and balanced evaluation of urban happiness, with DOSM providing an overall picture of the well-being of people at national, state, and district levels.
Nga noted that the MURNInets measurement complements this analysis by focusing on residents' actual experiences regarding the quality of the environment and urban services. He made these remarks during the national-level 2026 World Happiness Day celebrations. MURNInets is a system used to assess the sustainability of areas under local authorities through established urban indicators.
He further mentioned that based on the 2026 Ipsos Happiness Report released on March 19, Malaysia's reported happiness level stands at 81 percent, above the global average of 76 percent in 2025. Nga stated that the MADANI Government's policies aimed at improving well-being are starting to show results, and efforts to strengthen the MADANI framework will continue to protect people from uncertainties and global challenges.
In line with enhancing public well-being, Nga shared four simple principles for fostering a happier life, including daily gratitude, fostering sufficiency, and appreciating small things in life. He encouraged maintaining positivity, avoiding negative elements, and practicing a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition, physical activity, and adequate rest.
