The dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s launch of the National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2023 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah in Meru Raya here went smoothly today.
“I witnessed the dress rehearsal this morning. It is almost 100 per cent ready for the launch tomorrow,” said Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industries) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa.
“I am proud of the team work by all the government agencies to make it a success, including my ministry and support from the Perak government, led by the Information Department (JaPen),” she told reporters after the rehearsal.
She said more than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the various activities scheduled for the event, from this evening onwards.
Apart from the 6,600 Unity Steps tomorrow morning, the activities lined up include Rahmah Sales, an exhibition involving government agencies’ booths, patriotic star competition, quizzes and launch of the Jalur Gemilang Kembara Merdeka convoy.
The Royal Malaysia Police will also set up a counter for summons settlement from 8.30 am to 3 pm on Sunday, with discounts of up to 50 per cent on selected summonses.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will represent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to launch the event.
This year’s National Day celebrations will be held at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31, while the Malaysia Day celebrations will take place in Kuching on Sept 16.
Meanwhile, Information Department director-general Datuk Mohd Sukari Ab Hamid said Fadillah will flag off the Jalur Gemilang Kembara Merdeka convoy, which will see vehicles from JaPen and other government agencies as well as superbikes and participants from local communities go on a tour of Peninsular Malaysia.
JaPen Communications Services and Community Development Division director Erwin Khairul Ahmad said actor Syed Mohamad Asri, popularly known as Usop Wilcha, has been appointed as the icon and influencer for the launch.
He said Usop Wilcha will be creating content for the event and promoting it on social media.
“Usop will be at the location of the launch today and tomorrow to help make the event a success,” he said.
