Kuala lumpur: The Social Security Organisation's (Socso) Lindung 24/7 Scheme is expected to be implemented by mid-year, as announced by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. He emphasized the need for careful planning before the launch of any initiative.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ramanan stated that the ministry aims to ensure that the new scheme integrates seamlessly with existing programs. He indicated that while the scheme is still in the planning phase, there is a commitment to its implementation within the year. This announcement was made during a luncheon with the media, which was also attended by Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Perkeso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) editor-in-chief D. Arul Rajoo, and Bernama TV head Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali.
The Dewan Rakyat approved the Employees' Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025 in early December of last year. This bill introduces the Lindung 24/7 Scheme, which aims to provide continuous protection for workers, even outside of working hours. Unlike previous schemes that focused only on work-related incidents, Lindung 24/7 offers comprehensive coverage for accidents occurring at any time.
Eligible workers under the new scheme will receive benefits such as Medical Benefit, Temporary Disablement Benefit, Permanent Disablement Benefit, Dependants' Benefit, Constant Attendance Allowance, Funeral Benefit, Rehabilitation Benefit, and Education Benefit.
In a related announcement, Socso revealed that 150,599 out of 208,599 job seekers secured employment last year through career carnivals and interview sessions organized by the agency involving nearly 24,000 employers nationwide. Socso's rehabilitation efforts have also been effective, with over 80 percent of patients successfully reintegrated into society and the workforce.
Socso plans to open a new Rehabilitation Centre in Ipoh this year and has future plans to establish a hospital and rehabilitation centers in Terengganu and Penang. These developments aim to enhance the social protection ecosystem, as existing facilities in Melaka and Ipoh are nearing full capacity.
Additionally, Socso is focusing on amending the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800) and the gazettement of the Gig Workers Act 2025, expected to benefit over 1.2 million workers. There is also a planned feasibility study for the Commuter Scheme, which will assist nearly 400,000 Malaysians commuting to work in Singapore.
