Barcelona: Space42, the UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, and Viasat, Inc., a leader in satellite communications, are set to discuss their continued progress towards establishing a direct-to-device (D2D) infrastructure and provide an early glimpse into Equatys, their upcoming joint venture, during a program at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week. This event marks the first public presentation of Equatys' technical direction and commercial vision, aiming to accelerate global D2D adoption. It brings together policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to explore advancements in competition, resilience, and sovereignty, alongside enabling new business cases in space-enabled mobility.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Space42 and Viasat have co-founded Equatys, combining over 60 years of mobile satellite services experience. Equatys is intended to be an independent, neutral, multi-participant shared infrastructure platform, aimed at extending 3GPP-based connectivity to the billions underserved by traditional terrestrial networks. Since announcing Equatys in September 2025, the cofounders have made progress in venture formation, engineering development, and initial commercial engagement with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), marking significant steps towards phased deployment.
