Kuala Lumpur: The speed limit on federal roads nationwide will be reduced from 90 kilometres per hour (km/h) to 80 km/h from tomorrow until February 2 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that this reduction during the six-day Op Bersepadu is aimed at minimizing the risk of road accidents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta announced that non-critical road repair and maintenance works will be temporarily halted to prevent traffic disruption, while emergency works necessary for road safety will be planned carefully. If needed, alternative routes will be provided to ensure the smooth journey of road users.
To ensure a smooth traffic flow on highways, Nanta has instructed Syarikat Projek Lebuh Raya Utara Selatan (PLUS) to temporarily cease lane widening works along the Sedenak-Kulai route from January 23 to February 3. He also advised road users to prepare adequately for their trips, emphasizing health, rest, and readiness to avoid fatigue and drowsiness while driving.
Nanta reminded drivers to ensure their debit, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Touch n' Go cards have sufficient funds to prevent congestion at toll plazas. He also stressed the importance of checking car tyre conditions, driving prudently and patiently, and adhering to traffic rules.
He highlighted the MyJalan Programme's objectives, urging all road users to take responsibility for their safety and that of others. He encouraged road users to treat others as family members and foster unity among Malaysians. Nanta extended his wishes for a Happy Chinese New Year to all Malaysians celebrating the festive occasion.
