SSM Unveils 2026 Initiatives to Enhance Compliance and Support MSMEs

Kuala lumpur: The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has introduced four key initiatives for 2026 to strengthen corporate compliance and boost the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that these measures reflect the government's efforts to ease compliance requirements while enhancing the business ecosystem. These initiatives are aligned with the Companies (Amendment) Act 2024 and Limited Liability Partnerships (Amendment) Act 2024.

She announced that the first two initiatives will commence on April 16, followed by two more starting on June 1. The Compliance Clinic and Statutory Document Submission Recovery Campaign is the first initiative, aimed at assisting companies in meeting their obligations under the Companies Act 2016. This includes addressing outstanding Annual Returns and Beneficial Statements through direct advisory support. Running until September 30, the campaign offers a special window for submissions, with exemptions from prosecution and reduced penalties for selected offences.

The second initiative continues the 1 OKU 1 Business Scheme (S101P), which provides free business registration and renewal for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to promote inclusive entrepreneurship.

The third initiative extends the Free Business Registration Scheme (SPPP) from one year to two years, allowing B40 groups and higher education students to register businesses at no cost. As of February 28, SSM recorded 250,859 youths as company directors and 261,107 as shareholders, with 649,260 owning businesses and 40,840 registered as partners in limited liability partnerships. 'These figures show the strong potential of Malaysian youths in driving the economy,' noted Fuziah.

The fourth initiative introduces the Free Business Registration Scheme for Senior Citizens (SPPWE), offering free registration for the first year, catering to an ageing nation. Fuziah encouraged entrepreneurs and the corporate community to capitalize on these initiatives to foster a more competitive, sustainable, and inclusive business environment.
