Statements Recorded From 60 Witnesses On Zara Qairina’s Fatal Fall – Sabah Police

Kota kinabalu: Police have recorded statements from about 60 witnesses, including students, parents, and school officials, in connection with the investigation into the death of religious school student Zara Qairina, 13, on July 17, according to Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun. The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding Zara's tragic fall.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the police are also assisted by counseling experts to help traumatized students provide clear statements about the incident. The investigation has been escalated to Bukit Aman for observation and final review before being referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers. Commissioner Dikun highlighted that Bukit Aman, as a higher authority, is expected to offer further insights regarding the case. While the possibility of Zara being a victim of bullying has not been ruled out, the investigation remains ongoing.

During a press briefing at the Sabah's celebration of 2025 Warriors' Day, Commissioner Jauteh mentioned that the police investigation is focused on two main aspects: the cause of death and the victim's surrounding environment. This comes after Zara was confirmed dead at the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17, a day after she allegedly fell from the third floor and was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory.

The public has expressed the need for a transparent and comprehensive investigation, prompting the police to ensure meticulous and professional handling of the case. On July 18, a special team from Sabah police was dispatched to the school to conduct further investigations. Commissioner Jauteh emphasized that the process must be handled delicately to avoid exacerbating the trauma experienced by student witnesses.

The function where Commissioner Jauteh made these remarks was officiated by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, and attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
