Kuala langat: A temporary relief centre has been activated to house 18 individuals from eight families following the storm that struck Kampung Medan in Kuala Langat near here yesterday. Kuala Langar police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi reported extensive damage resulting from the storm, which occurred at approximately 4.15 pm, impacting five schools, a hall, and about 40 houses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the schools affected include Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sijangkang Jaya, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Kampung Medan, and SK Jalan Tanjung. Additionally, Dewan Wawasan Batu 9, the Sijangkang State Constituency Coordinator's Office, the Batu 9 housing area, and the Taman Sijangkang Jaya industrial area suffered significant damage.
Mohd Akmalrizal disclosed that 11 pupils from SRA Kampung Medan sustained minor injuries during the incident. Of these, five were treated by Klinik Kesihatan Telok Panglima Garang staff, while the remaining six returned home with their families. Moreover, a man sustained an eye injury and a woman broke her leg after being struck by an iron bar during the storm. Both individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.
The police chief emphasized that the incident, categorized as a Level 1 Disaster, resulted in no casualties, with damage limited to infrastructure. Efforts to clear debris and cut fallen trees have been underway since 4.30 pm yesterday, involving cooperation among various parties.
Residents have been advised to avoid the disaster area without official permission to prevent any further incidents and to not interfere with ongoing cleanup and rescue operations conducted by the relevant agencies.
