Kuala lumpur: A 14-year-old male student, who was charged with assaulting his teacher two months ago, changed his plea to not guilty at the Magistrates' Court here today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the student's counsel, S Priyalatha, informed the media outside the court that the Form One remove class student entered his plea after the charge was read to him in Tamil during a mention proceeding in camera before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Alia Safri represented the prosecution in the case.
The youth is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to a 29-year-old male teacher at a local secondary school at 4.48 pm on July 28. The charge was made under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which prescribes a penalty of up to one year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, if convicted.
Priyalatha stated that she would need to examine the relevant case documents, which are to be disclosed by the prosecution, before deciding on whether to make representations regarding the case. "We applied for the court to allow more time for the next proceeding. The next mention has been fixed for Oct 9 to allow for the prosecution to provide the relevant documents to the court and the defence," she explained.
The incident gained significant attention on social media, where a video allegedly showing the male student assaulting and threatening his teacher at the secondary school was widely circulated on July 28.
