Sukma: Johor's women's high jump ace, Nur Sabrina Najwa Efrudin, achieved a proud milestone by breaking her personal record to win the gold medal at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today. During the event at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium, the 19-year-old athlete cleared a height of 1.72 meters (m), thereby surpassing her previous personal record of 1.63m to emerge as the champion in the event.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, her aspiration to break the championship record of 1.75m - held by Nurliyana Kamaruddin since the 2010 edition - did not materialise as she failed her attempt at 1.76m. "I am happy because I managed to break my personal record three times: the first jump at 1.66m, the second at 1.69m, and the third at 1.72m. Honestly, I didn't expect to set a personal record, but because my parents were present, I felt more energetic. Without their presence, I wouldn't have been able to do it," she said when met after the competition.
The silver medal in the women's high jump event went to Sabah's Ku Yee Aleng with a jump of 1.66m, while Chloe Then Shian Yee from Sarawak claimed the bronze after recording a 1.62m clearance. Nur Sabrina added that despite failing to break the championship record, she intends to do so in the upcoming edition. "I believe I am capable of jumping higher, and my target is to qualify for the 2027 SEA Games," she said.
Meanwhile, in the women's javelin event, Terengganu athlete Noor Aliya Alias emerged as the winner with a throw of 38.04m. The silver medal belonged to Sabah representative Morra Jane Delovevy Jairon with a throw of 36.48m, while Johor athlete Xuan Lim won the bronze after a throw of 36.35m.
