Pulau perhentian: The Terengganu Social Welfare Department (JKM) today dispatched three tonnes of essential supplies, including food and daily necessities, to the forward base on Pulau Perhentian near here, in preparation for the Northeast Monsoon for more than 2,000 residents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JKM Terengganu director Mazura Ngah Abd Manan stated that the items were transported via the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) ship KM Rawa. The shipment included rice, cooking oil, sugar, vermicelli, sardines, biscuits, and mineral water.
Mazura explained that last Thursday, JKM also sent food and basic necessities to the Pulau Redang forward base in Kuala Terengganu using the Eastern Region Marine Department's ship. The deliveries to both islands were supported by JKM volunteers, the Volunteer Corps Department (Rela), the Civil Defence Force (APM), and local villagers.
She confirmed that with today's delivery to the Pulau Perhentian forward base, all 157 forward bases in Terengganu are now well stocked with supplies. The forward bases in Terengganu are strategically located across 65 sites in the districts of Hulu Terengganu, Kemaman, Dungun, Setiu, Besut, Marang, and sites in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.
Mazura also highlighted that the state has 851 relief centres capable of accommodating up to 215,392 evacuees at any one time.
