Suspected Snatch Thief Beaten To Death After Attempted Robbery

Cheras: A man believed to be a foreigner was confirmed dead after being beaten by members of the public while attempting to rob a female kindergarten teacher in a residential area near Batu 9, Cheras on Tuesday. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof stated that his department received an emergency call from the public regarding the incident at 11.10 am.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, members from the Batu 9 Cheras Police Station rushed to the location and found a man lying injured and unconscious. An examination by the medical team that arrived shortly afterward confirmed that the suspect had died, allegedly beaten by the public. The robbery suspect, approximately 160 centimeters tall, wore a black T-shirt and a pair of black shorts and did not possess any identification documents.

Naazron mentioned that a post-mortem conducted on the same day classified the cause of death as 'Pending Laboratory Analysis' by a Pathologist. Following the incident, police arrested eight local men aged between 22 and 72 at 7.46 pm on the day of the incident to assist in the investigation. All individuals have been remanded for six days from July 23 to 28. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years and, if not sentenced to death, can be given not less than 12 strokes.
