Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia experienced a downturn at mid-afternoon, largely influenced by selling activities in select counters, prominently Tenaga Nasional, Public Bank, and Petronas Chemicals.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tenaga Nasional saw a decline of 48 sen to RM13.46, Public Bank decreased by five sen to RM4.26, and Petronas Chemicals fell by 11 sen to RM3.58. At 3:01 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dropped 11.35 points to 1,528.97, compared to the previous day's close of 1,540.32. The benchmark index had opened the day 1.66 points lower at 1,538.66.
In the broader market, the number of decliners outpaced gainers, with 604 counters falling and 288 rising, while 421 remained unchanged, 1,213 were not traded, and 44 were suspended. The market turnover registered at 2.21 billion shares, valued at RM1.3 billion.
Among other major stocks, Maybank experienced a decrease of seven sen to RM9.56, while CIMB rose by four sen to RM6.74. IHH Healthcare remained stable at RM6.65, and CelcomDigi saw a slight increase of one sen to RM3.84.
In terms of the most traded stocks, Focus Dynamics and Tanco remained unchanged at one sen and 91.5 sen, respectively. NexG and Velesto increased by one sen each to 52.5 sen and 19 sen, while Zetrix dropped by half-a-sen to 91 sen.
The broader market indices also reflected the downward trend. The FBM Emas Index fell by 73.15 points to 11,478.02, the FBMT 100 Index decreased by 76.68 points to 11,237.88, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index went down by 81.02 points to 11,499.94. The FBM 70 Index was reduced by 83.43 points to 16,575.43.81, and the FBM ACE Index decreased by 16.35 points to 4,626.16.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index declined by 67.24 points to 17,438.34, the Plantation Index fell by 51.25 points to 7,418.71, and the Industrial Products and Services Index decreased by 1.12 points to 157.04. Conversely, the Energy Index saw a slight increase of 1.27 points to 739.95.
