Kuala lumpur: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji (TH) is not a tool to yield decisions in favour of any political party, but was established to seek the truth based on facts, documents and evidence, says Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim. He questioned the rationale behind demands by Perikatan Nasional (PN) and UMNO for a new RCI to re-investigate the management of the institution.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Kamil emphasized that the RCI report, which was made public last month, was not initiated by the MADANI Government, and that the process of setting it up began when the parties now demanding a new probe were in administration. 'When the RCI findings do not favour their political narrative, suddenly they want a new RCI. What exactly do they want? Should a new RCI be established every time an investigation's findings do not meet their political expectations, until a decision they like is reached?' he said in a statement today.
Muhammad Kamil stated that if there were errors in the RCI report, the parties concerned should present evidence instead of rejecting the findings simply because they did not align with their own political interests. 'If there is truly new evidence, present it. If there are factual discrepancies, show them. If there were errors in the investigation process, explain them openly. That is how a mature democracy works, not by asking for an RCI to be repeated simply because they are dissatisfied with its findings,' he said.
He also raised the issue of PN MPs who chose to walk out when the RCI report was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 12, despite having been given space to listen to and scrutinise the investigation findings. "Today, when the RCI findings are not in their favour, they demand that a new RCI be set up. This raises a major question as to whether they truly want to seek the truth, or merely want a decision that suits their political narrative," he said.
Muhammad Kamil also reminded all parties not to make TH a political tool to serve specific interests, as the institution held the trust of millions of depositors. He said the MADANI Government was not afraid of the truth, and if there were any shortcomings or legal violations, appropriate action must be taken. "I call on PN and UMNO to stop playing games with state institutions for political gain. If they genuinely want to defend TH, defend it with solid facts, evidence and arguments," he said.
The RCI report published on July 29 revealed various key findings regarding TH's management and governance for the period between 2014 and 2020.
