Port Klang: The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has not ruled out the possibility that two missing victims of a boat that capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan were swept away by currents while the boat was being towed to the floating jetty of the Selangor Maritime Headquarters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Port Klang Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) head, Deputy Superintendent Haikal Jammy Ngali, mentioned that initial investigations revealed the boat was towed by a public boat for 0.3 nautical miles before a distress call was received at around 5 pm. The department is considering the possibility that the victims, a married couple, were thrown overboard during the incident.
Although the sunken boat was successfully refloated, the two victims were not found inside, supporting the theory that they drifted away with the current. So far, rescue efforts have been limited to surface-level searches, as the department has not determined the exact location of the capsize.
North Klang police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao stated that despite the search covering a five nautical mile radius, no clues have been found regarding the missing victims. The refloated boat will be inspected further at the Port Klang Marine Police base.
The bodies of three victims, including a three-year-old child, have been claimed by their family after post-mortem examinations at the Shah Alam Hospital. The search and rescue operation was paused at 7 pm and will resume the following morning.
The boat, carrying six individuals, capsized around 5 pm. Three people, including a child, died, while one survivor, Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17, was rescued. The missing individuals are identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.
