Sungai ara: The teacher who allegedly slashed his wife in their home in Taman Tunas Muda, Sungai Ara, will face charges of attempted murder at the Balik Pulau Court tomorrow.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 30-year-old suspect is set to be charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code following the completion of his six-day remand.
The incident occurred at 6 am on a Wednesday when the suspect reportedly attacked his 28-year-old wife, who is also a teacher, by slashing her neck and then injuring himself in their bedroom. The victim's mother intervened after hearing screams, finding her daughter pinned down, and managed to pull her to safety.
Police investigations led by Southwest district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam suggest that the altercation was sparked by financial difficulties, stemming from a bank loan for stock investments and payments for online purchases.
In response, the Penang Social Welfare Department (JKM) has pledged support for the victim. Penang JKM director Rozita Ibrahim stated that after visiting the victim's home post-discharge from Penang Hospital, the family requested privacy due to her trauma. JKM plans to provide ongoing counselling once the family is ready.
Additionally, the Penang Education Department (JPNPP) is actively supporting the victim's recovery. Director Mohammad Dziauddin Mat Saad confirmed that the department is providing the necessary assistance during her medical leave and is prioritizing her recovery over any potential school transfer discussions. The school administration is also involved in offering special leave and managing her welfare to aid her recuperation.
