Kedah: A teacher allegedly involved in the tragic case of an 11-year-old girl who reportedly died from a heart condition after being made to participate in sports activities has been transferred pending the results of an ongoing investigation, as confirmed by the Kedah Education Department (JPN).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a Kedah JPN representative stated that the teacher was moved to a different school soon after an initial probe, describing this action as an early intervention measure. The case has been escalated to the Integrity Unit of the Education Ministry (MOE) for further examination. The public has been advised to refrain from speculating and to allow the JPN and MOE the necessary space to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

An internal source from the school shared that the incident occurred on April 14 when the pupil was reportedly involved in a trial for the 80-metre race during the school's sports event. The pupil, who had a known history of heart disease since childhood, fell ill after the activity and began receiving medical care on April 17. She did not return to school for four months, prompting her family to file a complaint on May 10.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek has instructed the MOE Integrity Unit to proceed with actions concerning the death of Nur Qaira Alisha Ahmad 'Ilwan, a primary school student in Kedah, in line with existing regulations and laws. Minister Fadhlina was also briefed that Kedah JPN had conducted an investigation into the complaint made by the girl's family.

The case gained public attention after the victim's father shared a viral social media post, alleging that despite having a medical letter certifying her heart condition, his daughter was instructed by a teacher to participate in a running activity during the selection for the school's sports teams. Following the incident, Nur Qaira Alisha was reportedly bedridden, required oxygen support, and was declared dead at 7.49 pm last Wednesday.
