Melaka: Tenders for the construction of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters (IPD) complex and the Tanjung Minyak police station are expected to open as early as February next year, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. He stated that both projects are currently being refined at the Value Assessment Lab (VA Lab) under the Ministry of Economy to enable the government to finalise the scope of work, project costs, and other related matters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a value assessment study will be conducted in June, following which tenders will be called for from qualified contractors. The Deputy Home Minister expressed hope that the construction of the Melaka Tengah IPD and the Tanjung Minyak police station can commence by the middle of next year. This announcement was made during a meet-and-greet with police retirees and personnel from the Tanjung Minyak police station.
Also present at the event were Melaka senior executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin and Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar. Rais, who is also the Paya Rumput assemblyman, emphasized the need to expedite the construction of the Tanjung Minyak police station, highlighting that the current station has only 17 personnel responsible for the safety of approximately 9,000 residents.
Rais pointed out that the police-to-population ratio in Paya Rumput is significantly high, as it is the most densely populated area in Melaka. He expressed confidence that the new facilities would enhance safety and improve living conditions for the residents, particularly those in the Paya Rumput constituency.
The federal government had previously planned to construct a new Melaka Tengah IPD complex in Krubong on a 4.94-hectare site, with an allocation of approximately RM250 million.
