TH Launches Preparation Plan To Help Muslims Fulfil Haj Aspirations

Kuala lumpur: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has announced the launch of a new haj eligibility system that automatically queues depositors for the haj pilgrimage once their savings reach a minimum of RM15,000. This move aims to streamline the registration and waiting-list process while maintaining the first-come, first-served principle.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Pelan Persediaan Haji - Seruan Istito'ah replaces the previous system, providing a more systematic approach for haj preparation. The new plan allows depositors already registered for the haj until December 31, 2028, to meet the savings requirement. From January 1, 2029, the haj waiting list will be reorganized based on registration dates and savings balance.

The initiative aligns with the Royal Commission of Inquiry's recommendations to improve governance and ensure a transparent and equitable haj offer system. TH Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain highlighted that the new system addresses depositor feedback for clearer guidelines and a structured preparation process.

One significant challenge noted by TH is that nearly half of the depositors who received haj offers had to delay their plans. With the haj cost rising to RM33,300 per person, the RM15,000 savings requirement, introduced in 2025, has successfully reduced postponement rates from 50% to 18%.

TH Group Managing Director and CEO Mustakim Mohamad stated that the Pelan Persediaan Haji - Seruan Istito'ah offers a clearer pathway for Muslims in Malaysia to prepare for the haj. The plan encourages early planning and provides tools like the Haj Savings Calculator to assist individuals in managing their savings.

Additionally, TH will introduce the Istito'ah Fund from September 19, allowing depositors to maintain both General and Istito'ah funds in one account. This fund will support voluntary and systematic savings towards haj preparations, assessing financial readiness based on the principle of Istito'ah.
