Kemaman: Three Myanmar male refugees working as construction and cleaning workers were detained in connection with a sexual case involving an intellectually disabled woman in this district yesterday. Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Mohd Rosli stated that the three men, aged between 19 and 28, were arrested following a report made by a 20-year-old woman on Friday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, all three suspects have been remanded from August 8 to 12 to assist in further investigations. The investigation is ongoing to identify any other suspects who may be involved in the case. Supt Mohd Razi confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
Supt Mohd Razi emphasized the need for a thorough investigation while ensuring sufficient space and time for the 23-year-old victim, given her intellectual disability. He also addressed the circulation of a video on TikTok showing a crowd gathered at the Kampung Enjin Gergaji Flats, cautioning the public against making baseless speculations as the investigation continues.
The police chief advised against taking any hasty actions towards Rohingya refugees that might lead to criminal acts. He urged anyone with information related to the case to contact a nearby police station or reach out to the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Hadaza Mat Amin, at 09-859 2222.
