Tourism Ministry Encourages AI Use in Sector Growth

Putrajaya:Small businesses and local communities are being urged to embrace digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to broaden the benefits of tourism sector growth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, secretary-general of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), stated that technology could enhance tourists' ability to discover Malaysia's unique offerings, streamline travel planning, and improve destination management efficiency.

Malaysia's appeal as a tourism destination is bolstered by its cultural diversity, rich heritage, and natural beauty. However, Shaharuddin emphasized the importance of aligning technological advancements with environmental preservation and cultural values. This approach aims to establish a competitive and sustainable tourism sector that will remain valuable for future generations.

The statement was released in connection with the ministry-level World Tourism Day 2026 celebration, taking place from September 28 to October 2 at the MOTAC lobby in Putrajaya. The event, themed 'Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism', emphasizes the responsible integration of technology in tourism promotion, services, and destination management.

Aligned with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations and the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign, MOTAC is committed to fostering smarter, more inclusive, and sustainable tourism development.
