Kuala lumpur: Two police reports have been lodged against allegations that houses in Taman Segar, Cheras, have been changed from leasehold to freehold, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh stated. She addressed the claims, which also suggested that an announcement regarding the change was made at a media conference in Taman Segar concerning the gazettement of a field for public use, describing them as slanderous.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hannah Yeoh emphasized that no such announcement was made, and she is not part of the land committee responsible for altering the housing status. "I am not involved at all in the land committee responsible for changing leasehold status to freehold. So, this is clearly slander," she asserted during a press conference. She confirmed that two police reports had been filed-one last night and another this morning.
Yeoh highlighted that everyone present at the Taman Segar press conference could confirm that the issue of changing land status was not discussed. She also referenced Facebook live recordings, media statements, and news reports related to the event, which did not mention any announcement of the alleged change.
Expressing her concerns, Yeoh urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and mentioned the possibility of taking legal action against those perpetuating the slander. She accused the individuals involved of playing up racial issues and spreading falsehoods. The statement was in response to comments by Tamadun Alam Melayu Academy researcher Zaharah Sulaiman, who questioned how Yeoh allegedly managed to change the housing status in Taman Segar, Cheras, from leasehold to freehold in a short timeframe.
