Sarikei: Preliminary police investigations have revealed that a fatal accident, claiming the lives of three men, occurred at KM431 Jalan Bulat on the Pan Borneo Highway last night. The crash is believed to have been initiated by a vehicle executing a U-turn and suddenly entering the main lane.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis stated that the accident, which took place around 9pm, involved two Toyota Hilux vehicles. A black Toyota Hilux, driven by a 33-year-old local man and carrying two other passengers, allegedly made a sudden exit into the main lane during a U-turn. It was then struck by a white Toyota Hilux driven by a 40-year-old man traveling from Sibu towards Sarikei.
The collision resulted in the deaths of the occupants of the black Toyota Hilux, who succumbed to severe head injuries at the scene. The driver of the white vehicle sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Sarikei Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Vincent Engan Tula, 33, Stevenson Sigau Ujang Satin, 20, and Indonesian national Muhammad Saerozi, 41.
Supt Aswandy Anis confirmed that the case is under investigation in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He appealed to any witnesses of the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Mustaqim at 010-442 7241 or visit the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Sarikei District Police Headquarters to assist with the investigation.
