Kuala lumpur: The 'Rumah Bangsa' initiative launched by UMNO has started to receive encouraging feedback from various political figures, including former leaders of the party, according to UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad, who also serves as a committee member for the 'Rumah Bangsa' initiative, shared that the committee's inaugural meeting was held under the leadership of UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin last week. The meeting focused on strategies to fortify the initiative.
Ahmad mentioned that during the meeting, it was concluded that UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should release an official statement to express the party's willingness to welcome back former members who had been suspended, expelled, or had left the party. This move is part of a broader effort to invite those individuals to rejoin UMNO and contribute to the collective effort for religion, race, and nation.
The Deputy Works Minister noted that the committee's preliminary review revealed that some influential figures have shown support for the initiative, although a few have stipulated certain conditions before contemplating a return to UMNO through the 'Rumah Bangsa' platform.
A 10-member committee has been given the responsibility of reaching out to several former prominent leaders for meetings and discussions to understand their perspectives on the 'Rumah Bangsa' concept. This initiative is seen as a platform for unity to bolster the cause of the Malay community through UMNO.
Ahmad highlighted that each committee member was assigned specific individuals to engage with, based on a list provided by the UMNO president. He himself is tasked with approaching certain individuals, whose identities will remain confidential for the time being.
He emphasized that the effort, initiated by Ahmad Zahid, is perceived as a pivotal step to consolidate Malay political strength under the UMNO banner, reaffirming its position as the principal party representing the Malay community.
Ahmad concluded by stating that the overall reception of the initiative is positive, with the committee already receiving several applications from prominent figures and former UMNO leaders willing to participate in the 'Rumah Bangsa' initiative.
