Unarmed Combat Integral to Soldier Training, States PULPAK Commander

Kuala ketil: Unarmed combat, known locally as Tempur Tanpa Senjata (TTS), serves as the primary self-defence shield for all military personnel. Commander of the Army Special Warfare Training Centre (PULPAK), Col. Nordin Abu, stated that TTS is a crucial component of the training regimen for soldiers, ensuring they are prepared for life-threatening situations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Col. Nordin emphasized the significance of TTS as the foundational self-defence technique for soldiers, highlighting the necessity for military personnel to master unarmed combat in addition to weaponry skills. "It takes nearly a year for us to train each personnel and equip them with the necessary defensive techniques and tactics," he stated during the Basic Commando Course Series AK/1/2026 at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah University (UniSHAMS) in Kuala Ketil.

Nordin further explained that TTS not only builds combat confidence but also enables soldiers to neutralise threats without weapons. The distinction between TTS and other combat training was underscored, with TTS focusing purely on self-defence. "It's a fundamental skill that everyone should have a basic grasp of," he noted.

The Army with the People programme, which coincided with the closing of the Basic Commando Course Series AK/1/26, attracted approximately 50,000 visitors. Nordin remarked that the event aimed to strengthen the bond between the army and the public while encouraging youth participation in the military. UniSHAMS was strategically chosen for its central location and its role as a hub of knowledge.

The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme featured military asset displays and demonstrations, including a Prisoner of War Rescue, Parachute Handling Skills, Special Forces Combat, and Sniper drills. A Green Beret donning ceremony was also held for officers and ranks who completed their commando training.

The CIMIC initiative supports the Fourth Core of the National Defence Strategic Plan (PSPN) 2026-2030, focusing on strengthening military-public ties through cooperation. This initiative aims to enhance community well-being and reinforce the spirit of Total Defence (HANRUH).
