Understanding History Crucial For Unity – Perlis Raja Muda

Kangar: The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, emphasized that a deep understanding of history is vital for uniting Malaysia's multi-ethnic society and preventing the recurrence of past errors. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra articulated that history forms the backbone of national identity and is an essential guide for future endeavors, urging it to be valued responsibly to foster a harmonious and progressive nation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, His Royal Highness spoke during the opening ceremony of the National History Convention 2026 at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The convention's theme, 'Bersama Membina Negara Bangsa' (Building a Nation Together), encourages viewing history not merely as heritage but as a tool for shaping the future. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra stated that a nation's construction requires sustained efforts rooted in education, mutual understanding, and respect for differences.

The event was attended by Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also remarked on the importance of civilization as the foundation of a strong nation, emphasizing that a civilization's endurance relies on the strength of a sovereign nation-state. He likened civilization to the soul and the nation to the body, both needing unity to ensure the country's ongoing success and future prosperity.

Moreover, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra highlighted the significant opportunity for today's younger generation to become more informed and develop critical thinking skills in the digital era. He encouraged educators and scholars to innovate teaching methods, making them more engaging, accurate, and relevant to strengthen the younger generation's understanding.

His Royal Highness expressed hope for the realization of plans to establish the National Archives of Malaysia and a state archive in Perlis, alongside the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail Gallery or Museum. These initiatives aim to preserve Perlis' historical treasures, heritage, and identity, serving as valuable references for future generations.

In a statement released in conjunction with the ceremony, the Ministry of National Unity highlighted that the two-day convention serves as a crucial platform for historians and practitioners to share findings, views, and academic discourse, enriching the nation's historical narrative. The event includes four presentation sessions with 14 presenters focusing on themes such as royal institutions, continuity and change, the nationalist movement, administration and law, as well as MADANI development and community wellbeing.
