Unity Sports League Promotes National Unity Through Sports

Perlis:The Unity Sports League, organized by the Ministry of National Unity since 2022, serves as an effective platform for fostering unity among the various races in the country through shared sports activities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ministry of National Unity secretary-general Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid emphasized the league's role in encouraging public participation, especially among youths, in both traditional games and modern sports. By doing so, the league strengthens relationships among participants, transcending diverse backgrounds.

The 2026 Northern Zone Unity Sports League event was officiated by Haslina, alongside National Unity and Integration Department director-general Zulkifli Hashim. This year's league began in the Central Zone in Kuala Lumpur in September, moving through the Eastern Zone in Terengganu, the Northern Zone in Perlis, and will continue to Sabah and Sarawak before concluding in the Southern Zone in Negeri Sembilan. It aims to engage over 20,000 participants.

The Northern Zone event featured traditional games at the historic Kota Kayang Museum and modern sports like futsal and netball, providing a blend of cultural and contemporary activities. This initiative seeks to balance the promotion of active lifestyles with an appreciation for cultural heritage.

Haslina highlighted that both traditional and modern sports offer valuable opportunities for open interaction, fostering mutual understanding and relationships among people of different races, languages, and ages.
