Kuala lumpur: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has recognised media practitioners as key strategic partners in amplifying the university's expertise and achievements that have strengthened its reputation at both national and international levels. UPM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah highlighted the instrumental role of media support in enhancing the university's visibility and bridging the gap between academia and society through the dissemination of information based on knowledge and research.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Farhan emphasized the importance of UPM experts in addressing current challenges as agents of knowledge dissemination to the public. He noted that the university's expertise should extend beyond academic publications and be translated into solutions that deliver tangible benefits to the nation and its people. Dr Ahmad Farhan made these remarks at the UPM Promotion with Media 2026 event, where the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, was also present.
Dr Ahmad Farhan further articulated the necessity of close collaboration between universities and the media to ensure the public receives accurate and authoritative information, particularly in the social media era where information spreads rapidly. He reiterated UPM's commitment to advancing its global agenda through the Planetary Health and Sustainability Blueprint and the Food Security Blueprint, aiming to strengthen the university's role in ensuring societal well-being and national sustainability.
Dr Ahmad Farhan announced that the soon-to-be-launched planetary health blueprint would cover various aspects, including food security, sustainable urban development, mobility, waste management, and ecosystem preservation. In a related development, he highlighted that 29 UPM subjects were listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reflecting the institution's academic strength and global consistency.
Notably, Veterinary Science at UPM continues to excel, maintaining its position among the world's top at 38th place, reinforcing its standing as the number one subject in Malaysia for five consecutive years and the best in Asia for three consecutive years. Agriculture and Forestry also sustained its excellence, ranking 64th globally, retaining its position as the best in Malaysia for 14 consecutive years and among the top 10 in Asia.
