Wanita DAP Launches Media Awards To Promote Coverage Of Women In Politics

Kuala lumpur: Wanita DAP has, for the first time, launched the Women in Politics: Outstanding Media Awards to encourage in-depth media coverage on women's participation in politics. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the DAP women's wing stated that the awards aim to recognize outstanding media practitioners who document the stories of women in politics with empathy and precision, ensuring their voices and contributions are heard, remembered, and preserved for posterity. The awards feature four language categories: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, and Tamil. They are open to news articles and video productions published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Entries from print media, online platforms, electronic media, and new media are welcome, including television news, YouTube channels, podcasts, and social media platforms. Winners of the Grand Prize in each language category will receive RM3,000, while three Excellence Award recipients in each language will receive RM1,000. Eligible en tries must focus on women's involvement in politics, encompassing personal journeys, experiences overcoming gender barriers, contributions to public policy and social issues, or influence across sectors. This includes women who are village committee members, political party representatives, local councillors, Members of Parliament, or assemblymen, regardless of political affiliation. Media practitioners and digital content creators are encouraged to highlight these women's stories in their work and submit them for consideration. Meanwhile, Wanita DAP chief Teo Nie Ching stated that the awards are intended to harness the power of media in breaking stereotypes and portraying women political leaders through diverse perspectives, ultimately making their narratives catalysts for social reform and gender equality. Teo, who is also Deputy Communications Minister, expressed hope that the award would encourage more journalists to spotlight inspiring stories of women in politics, foster positive narratives in society , and inject new energy into discourse surrounding gender equality.
