Kuala lumpur: A sports presenter with Astro Arena, Akbar Sahari, 50, has been granted a lifetime Survivor's Pension benefit from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) following the passing of his wife Noorsuzilawati Mohd Noor, 44, from colon cancer on July 6.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, through the social protection scheme, their three children aged between 13 and 19 are also eligible to receive the benefit until they are 21 years old or until they pursue their first degree. Perkeso Board chairman Datuk Sri Subahan Kamal stated that the monthly payment of RM1,441.67 was a continuation of the Disability Pension Benefit that the deceased had previously received since July 5, 2024, due to her contributions throughout her service since 1999.
'A review shows that the beneficiaries, namely her widower and three children aged between 13 and 19, are eligible to receive the Survivor's Pension benefit as the dependents inherit the Invalidity Pension Benefit under the Disability Scheme, Employment Social Security Act 1969,' he said in a statement today. He also noted that while the monetary benefit cannot replace a wife and mother who has passed away, even in her absence, her dependents or beneficiaries remain protected and their future safeguarded, thanks to her contributions made over the years.
In addition to the Survivor's Pension, Perkeso also provided a Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000 to the family, which was disbursed two days after the deceased's passing.
