Witness Protection (Amendment) Bill For Tabling At Parliament Sitting In June


Kuala Lumpur: Several Bills (RUU), including the Witness Protection (Amendment) Bill, are expected to be tabled in the next Parliament sitting in June. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, announced that other bills to be presented include the Cross-Border Insolvency Act 2025, the Legal Aid and Public Defence Act 2025, and the Mediation (Amendment) Act 2025.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azalina shared insights on her visits to ASEAN member countries, where she engaged with law and justice ministers to gather input on the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill. She emphasized the importance of commitment from ASEAN countries, facilitated through the ASEAN Law Forum.



In a related update, Azalina disclosed that the government had reviewed over 2,000 outdated laws to ensure their relevance in contemporary times, focusing on elements such as digital signatures under the Contract Act. She highlighted the ongoing challenge, noting that approximately 164 outdated laws still require examination.
