Kuala lumpur: The talents of Malaysia's wushu exponents shone at the 2025 South East Asian (SEA) Games as they recorded a haul of three gold, one silver, and five bronze medals, exceeding the set target of one gold medal. Wushu Federation of Malaysia president Datuk Chong Kim Fatt expressed optimism about the future performance of the national squad, especially as Malaysia prepares to host the 2027 SEA Games.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Chong Kim Fatt was confident that local wushu exponents will continue to shine in future competitions. He mentioned that Pang Pui Yee, who was unable to compete at her full potential due to illness, is expected to become a future star. Meanwhile, Mandy Cebelle Chan, although needing more time to mature, is expected to secure medals in the upcoming games.
The initial target was to secure one gold medal through world champion Tan Cheong Min. However, the team surpassed expectations, winning three gold medals. The additional victories came from the women's duilian team, consisting of Cheong Min, Lo Ying Ting, and Pui Yee, as well as the women's dullian (without weapons) team of Ying Ting, Mandy, and Sydney Chin Sy Xuan.
Datuk Chong also revealed plans to engage foreign coaches for several disciplines to further strengthen the national squad in preparation for future competitions.
