Dengkil: Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, has called on young individuals struggling with drug-related issues to seek rehabilitation services without fear or shame, especially through the voluntary programs provided by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). She emphasized the need to overcome the stigma attached to drug rehabilitation and encouraged the youth to actively seek help.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) plans to collaborate closely with the Home Ministry (KDN) to enhance the promotion of AADK's drug rehabilitation services targeted at young people. Hannah noted that while AADK offers these services, the high volume of cases often limits their effective reach to the youth.
Hannah asserted, "This responsibility cannot fall solely on AADK; KBS must step in to support them. KBS and KDN must work together closely, as the youth are our primary target group," during a press conference following her visit to the Narcotics Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) in Dengkil.
She further emphasized the need for stronger promotional efforts, highlighting that at PUSPEN alone, 117,000 out of 190,000 clients, approximately 60%, seeking treatment are young people. Hannah underscored the importance of rehabilitation, noting that the youth represent the nation's future and deserve a second chance to become productive members of society.
Additionally, Hannah unveiled plans to involve retired athletes in training young individuals at PUSPEN in various sports, offering them the opportunity to explore their athletic potential. She expressed confidence that among the youth affected by drugs, there exists untapped athletic talent.
"We also want to help them through sports. I'm confident that among the youth affected by drugs, there are untapped athletic talents. By providing them with training here (at PUSPEN), we not only offer them skills but also a platform for sports," she added.
During her visit, Hannah interacted with PUSPEN clients and toured the various facilities at the centre.
