Kulai: The YTL Green Data Centre in Kulai, Johor has positioned Malaysia as a significant player on the global stage in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and as the AI Centre of Excellence within ASEAN, stated Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. He emphasized the centre's role as a product of strategic collaboration between YTL Power International Bhd and NVIDIA, aimed at developing AI infrastructure powered by green energy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this ambitious project, valued at RM10 billion, is set to not only establish Malaysia's own large language model (LLM) but also foster the growth of local talent and expertise. The initiative is anticipated to boost demand for high-tech positions, including data scientists and AI engineers, thus significantly contributing to the local job market.
YTL is recognized as one of five NVIDIA Cloud Partners, joining the ranks of other technology leaders such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. Tengku Zafrul highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's discussions with NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang, underlining that these conversations have translated potential into tangible outcomes.
