Zambry Calls for Cessation of Pressure on University Admission Processes

Kuala lumpur: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir has urged all parties to stop using excessive pressure regarding university admissions through the UPUOnline system because it would only worsen the situation. In a statement issued via video today, Zambry urged all parties to strengthen confidence in the country's higher education system for the future of students in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry emphasized the ministry's openness to good discussions and suggestions from all parties and discouraged any manipulation or vested interests that could exacerbate the situation. He also advised caution when issuing statements about the issue to prevent causing anxiety and unease, particularly concerning access to higher education.

Zambry highlighted the appeal and consultation process provided by the ministry through UPUOnline and mentioned a special office at the KPT lobby to assist students facing application problems. He reiterated that these issues could be resolved through the established processes, as informed by the Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman and the UPUOnline system.

The Ministry of Higher Education continues to work on resolving issues that arise among students applying through UPUOnline, ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue higher education. Zambry acknowledged the annual challenges faced by applicants and assured that the ministry is committed to understanding and assisting students' situations.

He further advised against over-exploiting the issue for specific groups' goals or political interests. Emphasizing the ministry's commitment to fairness, Zambry stated that KPT ensures fair opportunities for all students through a merit-based system that considers demographic distribution and socio-economic factors, including support for students from B40 families.

Zambry also defended the UPUOnline system's long-standing efficiency, covering various educational channels, and rejected baseless allegations of its malfunction. He assured that KPT is dedicated to maintaining the system's smooth operation.
