ASEAN Urged to Develop Practical Oil Stockpiling Framework to Boost Energy Security

Kuala lumpur: ASEAN needs to work towards a practical framework for oil stockpiling to enhance the region's long-term energy security and preparedness, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Johari, who attended the 27th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting, emphasized this as a key discussion point with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johari stated that they exchanged views on the importance of ASEAN member states adopting a more proactive and practical approach to strengthen regional economic resilience and energy security. He highlighted the need for collaboration among ASEAN countries to tackle these pressing issues effectively.

In addition to energy security, Johari mentioned that discussions also covered current regional economic developments and the impact of geopolitical tensions on global trade and supply chains. He emphasized the importance of strong regional cooperation and pragmatic approaches to ensure that ASEAN remains resilient, competitive, and relevant in the face of an increasingly challenging global landscape.

Johari noted the close and strategic economic relationship between Malaysia and Singapore, expressing his belief that enhanced cooperation and practical strategies are crucial for ASEAN's continued success and stability.
