Kuala lumpur: ASEAN member countries must nurture in their younger generation the values of cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect to strengthen regional unity and resilience in the digital era, stated Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. He emphasized the importance of these shared values in ensuring ASEAN's continued progress and solidarity as the region navigates an increasingly interconnected and digital future.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Fauzi highlighted the significance of traditions not just being preserved, but actively lived through the work within the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI) and its Working Group. He underscored the importance of passing on values of cooperation, understanding, and respect to the youth in the digital age, which is crucial for sustaining a living connection between ASEAN peoples.
Mohamad Fauzi delivered these remarks during a dinner event held in conjunction with the 10th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI) Working Group on Information, Media and Training (10th ASEAN SOMRI WG-IMT). The event was attended by the ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Telecommunications Infrastructure) Mano Verabathran and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
He described the event not merely as a formal gathering, but as a celebration of friendship and solidarity reflecting ASEAN's unity. Mohamad Fauzi expressed Malaysia's pride in sharing its heritage through food, culture, and hospitality while recognizing and celebrating the distinct traditions of each ASEAN Member State. He stated that the diversity of traditions underscores the strength and foundation of a stronger, united ASEAN.
The 10th SOMRI Working Group on Information, Media and Training, which commenced today, brings together senior representatives from ASEAN member states to enhance regional cooperation in information sharing, responsible media practices, and protection from harmful content. This two-day meeting builds on the outcomes of the 17th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) and the 22nd SOMRI, which reinforced the region's commitment to promoting digital literacy, responsible media use, and safeguarding information integrity. Malaysia's delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Communications, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Bernama.
