Sandakan:An assistant economic affairs officer has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to 14 charges related to the use of claim documents containing false material particulars, with the total worth of the supplies in question amounting to RM15,288 from 2023 to 2024.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the accused, Nur Izzati Mohd Rudzuan, 37, entered her plea before Judge Andi Razalijaya A Dadi. The charges were related to her use of false claim documents concerning several invoices for supplies that were not fully delivered, misleading her principal.
The supplies involved included food and beverages, PA system services, frozen foods such as lekor, curry puffs, and doughnuts, as well as chips, dried shrimp, blue-eyed anchovies, salted fish, fresh tiger prawns, and hamper gifts. Nine offences were allegedly committed between August and September 2023, with the remaining five from April to May 2024, all at the Sandakan Area Fishermen's Association Office.
The charges are framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, in conjunction with Section 28(1)(c), and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act. If found guilty, the accused could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of at least five times the value of the false particulars or RM10,000, whichever is greater.
The court has granted Nur Izzati bail at RM10,000 with a local surety, requiring her to report to the MACC office monthly and refrain from contacting witnesses. The case mention is set for November 5.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip is handling the case, while lawyer Sharaths Masyaroh John Ridwan Lincon represents the accused.
