BN Urged to Maintain Two-Thirds Majority in Upcoming Melaka Election, Says Ahmad Zahid

Melaka: Barisan Nasional (BN) must retain its two-thirds majority victory in the previous Melaka election to ensure continuity in the state administration, UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. He emphasized the importance of this majority for the stability and progress of the state governance.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid stated that BN would leverage the strong performance of the state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as a 'feel-good factor' in facing the Melaka state election, which is expected to be held this year. He highlighted that the achievements and progress under the current administration must be maintained to attract support for BN candidates in the upcoming election.

Ahmad Zahid made these remarks while addressing reporters after officiating the 2026 UMNO Branches Conference for Melaka in Ayer Keroh. The event was attended by notable figures including UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Melaka UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the BN chairman, stressed the need for the party to engage all segments of society. He pointed out that the electorate comprises 63 percent Malay voters and 37 percent non-Malay voters. This engagement, he noted, is crucial to align with the performance demonstrated by the state government and to show BN's capability as a political party in order to gain support from voters of all races in Melaka.
