Kuala lumpur: One of the seven Malaysia-flagged vessels carrying fuel has suffered damage and is unable to depart from a port in the Strait of Hormuz, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He stated that one of two vessels that had passed through the strait has arrived in Malaysia, while another is nearing the country's waters. The government is closely monitoring the remaining vessels that have yet to pass through the strait.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar revealed that Iran has granted clearance for all seven vessels, but one has encountered technical problems and is unable to leave the port. Anwar acknowledged that with this development, Malaysia is facing some minor difficulties. He conveyed this information to reporters after performing Friday prayers at the Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station surau.
In a related update, Anwar announced Malaysia's participation in a special international meeting on the situation in West Asia, including the Strait of Hormuz. This meeting is organized by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The discussions will focus on efforts to ensure the safety and freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.
Anwar mentioned that he will delegate the responsibility of participation to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He emphasized Malaysia's stance on the importance of freedom of passage, while also recognizing Iran's rights and expressing concerns over past actions by Israel and the United States against Iran. Anwar highlighted that Malaysia adopts a more balanced and independent stance in this matter.
