Decision Looms in Ebit Lew Sexual Harassment Case

Tenom: The Magistrate's Court in Tenom has set today for the decision on the prosecution case against preacher Ebit Irawan Lew, who faces 11 charges of sexual harassment. His lawyer Datuk Ram Singh confirmed the matter to Bernama. 'The court will deliver its decision at 4.30 pm today,' he said.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the trial, which began in September 2022, has been conducted before Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani and has included testimony from 18 prosecution witnesses. The prosecution team comprises Deputy Public Prosecutors Nor Azizah Mohamad, Analia Kamaruddin, and Muhammad Hidayat Wahab. Ebit Lew is defended by lawyers Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki and Prabjit Singh Gill.

Ebit Lew, 38, is accused of sending obscene images and messages via WhatsApp to a woman in her 40s between March and June 2021, in conduct said to have outraged her modesty. He is charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
