Kuantan: An intellectually disabled man who went missing yesterday after being swept away by strong currents in Sungai Kuantan near Kampung Tanah Putih was found drowned tonight. A spokesman for the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the body of the victim, Syed Alwi Syed Mohd Ali Hanafiah, 30, was found floating by members of the public at 9.10 pm today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim was found 2.5 kilometers from the rescue control center. Rescue personnel brought the body ashore in a boat and handed it over to police for further action.

Yesterday, the media reported that an intellectually disabled man was feared drowned while bathing in Sungai Kuantan near Kampung Tanah Putih. Kuantan police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu reportedly said the victim had gone to the river with his brother to fish before he was swept away by the current at about 3 pm.
