Feasibility Study Commences For RM22 Mln Upgrade To Labuan’s Ro-Ro Ferry Terminal

Labuan: The Public Works Department (JKR) has initiated a feasibility study for the RM22 million upgrade of the Roll On - Roll Off (Ro-Ro) Ferry Terminal in this duty-free island. Labuan JKR director Mohd Faizul Mohd Ali Hanapiah said a briefing on the planned upgrade was held at the terminal today, involving key agencies such as the Marine Department, Labuan Fire and Rescue Department, and police.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Faizul stated that the key objectives of the briefing included gathering initial input and coordinating the scope of work with stakeholders. He mentioned that the study aims to understand the operational and physical conditions at the terminal. Mohd Faizul emphasized that the study is also intended to review technical requirements and ensure compliance with local authority standards.

Following the briefing, a diving session was conducted to visually inspect the jetty structures, such as ramps and piers. Mohd Faizul noted that this initial inspection will guide the design team's recommendations for necessary structural tests and repairs.

Labuan Marine director Alimuddin Amirudin mentioned that the upgrading works would cover several aspects, including the ramps for embarkation and disembarkation, the ticketing counter, and the entry and exit points of the ferry terminal. The RM22 million allocation for the terminal upgrade was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to Labuan last year.
