Kuala lumpur: The national men's 3x3 basketball team made a historic Commonwealth Games debut by chalking up three consecutive victories in Group B at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here on Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia's team, comprising Chong Zhen Yang, Chang Zi Fueng, Ting Chun Hong, and Ooi Xian Fu, launched their Glasgow 2026 campaign with a 21-16 win over Fiji. This marked Malaysia's first victory in the 3x3 basketball event at the Commonwealth Games. The victory propelled the team forward, enabling them to secure a 21-15 win against Kenya. They concluded their successful day with another 21-15 triumph over Singapore, maintaining an unbeaten record after three matches.

The three consecutive wins have placed Malaysia in a strong position to vie for a spot in the knockout stage, aligning with their goal of reaching at least the semi-finals. As debutants in the men's 3x3 event at the Games, Malaysia is competing in Group B alongside England, Fiji, Jamaica, Kenya, and Singapore. The national side is scheduled to face England before completing their group matches against Jamaica tomorrow.

Under the competition format, the group winners will proceed directly to the semi-finals, while the second and third place teams must advance through the quarter-finals. The 3x3 basketball event was introduced in the Commonwealth Games at Birmingham 2022.
