Global Energy Crisis Spurs WFH Policy for Civil Servants to Save Fuel

Kuala lumpur: The implementation of a Work From Home (WFH) policy for civil servants starting next Wednesday is aimed at ensuring more efficient fuel usage, while also reducing the government's operating costs, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, emphasized that the main objective of the WFH policy is to achieve fuel savings among civil servants, particularly as the country faces challenges from the global energy crisis.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the WFH implementation will not involve certain sectors such as education, security, and healthcare. Other sectors may be granted exemptions as determined by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz. For the communications sector, department heads will assess the feasibility of remote work as long as core functions remain unaffected. Fahmi noted that communication can now be effectively managed through mobile devices, allowing certain departments like the Information Department to continue their functions remotely.

On April 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Cabinet had agreed to implement the WFH policy across ministries, agencies, statutory bodies, and government-linked companies starting April 15.
