Government Announces Allowance for Form Six Students in Budget 2027

Kuala lumpur: The government has decided to allocate funds for an allowance for Form Six students under Budget 2027, which is set to be tabled in October, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, highlighted the need for this decision after recognizing that students at the Form Six level currently do not receive any allowance, unlike their counterparts from primary school to university levels.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared this development during a dialogue with pre-university students. He noted that while students from Year One to Form Five and those in universities receive allowances, Form Six students have been overlooked. Speaking at the Temu Anwar programme in conjunction with the Ambang Merdeka Sahabat MADANI at the Tuanku Bainun Teacher Education Institute campus, Anwar confirmed the inclusion of this allocation in the upcoming budget. The event was also attended by Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.

Anwar mentioned that the exact amount of the allowance is yet to be finalized and will depend on the government's financial capacity at the time. Earlier in the day, Fadhlina stated that the proposed allowance was one of 12 resolutions discussed at the MADANI Pre-University Congress held in Klang. She assured that the Education Ministry had accepted all resolutions and would examine them for potential improvements while considering ways to implement the proposals.

Furthermore, Anwar emphasized that the education sector continues to receive the largest allocation from the government, underscoring its importance in shaping the nation's future. He stated that the focus is not only on academic excellence but also on instilling values, ethics, and respect for others. According to the Prime Minister, education should be a pathway to opportunity and transformation, offering every child the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential irrespective of their family background.

Anwar highlighted the importance of education in preparing the next generation to explore future-oriented fields like AI, technology, and semiconductors while contributing to various sectors that influence the nation's future. The Ministry of Education previously received an allocation of RM66.2 billion in Budget 2026, an increase from RM64.2 billion.
