Kuala lumpur: The government is contemplating the need to reinforce existing laws to effectively address bullying issues, as stated by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. Although the amendment of laws does not fall under her ministry's jurisdiction, Nancy expressed her readiness to engage in discussions with relevant authorities regarding this matter.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy mentioned that while there may not be an immediate necessity to introduce a new law, recent bullying incidents could provide fresh insights into enhancing current legislation. She shared these thoughts with reporters following her attendance at the Gempak Inspirasi @ Sepagi Bersama PPWS 2025 Programme.

Nancy confirmed that this issue will be brought up during the upcoming Cabinet meeting. Her statement comes in response to the Anti-Bullying Act Movement (GAB)'s calls for a dedicated law to comprehensively address bullying. Previously, it was reported that GAB Secretariat chairman Wan Azliana Wan Adnan indicated that efforts to draft the proposed act began in 2022, but have yet to yield substantial results.

In the meantime, Nancy highlighted that there is no immediate requirement for a new law since bullying is already addressed under the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act 2025. These Acts, aimed at more effectively and comprehensively tackling bullying, including cyberbullying, were passed by the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara in December 2024.
