IKIM Calls For Global Moves To Stop Israeli Attacks

Kuala lumpur: The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) today urged the Islamic world and the international community to take urgent actions to halt Israel's inhumane attacks.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, IKIM director-general Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil stated that these actions should include Malaysia and Islamic countries proposing an emergency draft resolution at the United Nations (UN) to activate an international military mission or peacekeeping force to stop the attacks. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) initiative receives full protection and permission to enter Gaza, aiming to establish a continuous humanitarian corridor for delivering food, medical aid, and shelter to the people of Gaza.

Mohamed Azam further suggested that Arab and Islamic countries should take firm steps by severing all official ties with Israel as a protest against the atrocities committed. He called for imposing sanctions on import and export dealings with Israel to exert economic pressure and weaken support for the regime. Additionally, he recommended broadening boycotts and restrictions on all forms of cooperation, including research, education, culture, and tourism with Israel.

He also urged Arab and Islamic countries to collectively bring Israel's genocide case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Mohamed Azam highlighted that these measures would not only save lives but also strengthen global awareness that the Palestinian issue is a universal humanitarian concern that must be addressed collectively.

He asserted that these steps would demonstrate the determination of Islamic countries to push for change through global legal and political mechanisms, rather than merely condemning the actions rhetorically.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azam expressed IKIM's full support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's firm statement at the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha, Qatar on September 15, which condemned Israel's air strikes on Doha as inhumane, a violation of international law, an encroachment on the sovereignty of an independent state, and a threat to regional security.

IKIM views the attacks as not only a threat to Qatar but also to the entire Islamic world and the global community, challenging the principle of state sovereignty and undermining international peace. During the summit, Anwar called for severe punitive measures against Israel, strongly condemning the regime's air strikes on Doha and the ongoing massacres in Gaza. He emphasized that decisive and conclusive action must be taken, as mere condemnation will not stop the missile strikes, and repeated statements will not free Palestine.
