Kuala Lumpur Authorities Consider New Command Centre for CCTV Access

Kuala Lumpur:Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are in discussions to establish a second command centre to improve police access to the city's extensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) network.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that approximately 10,000 CCTV units are currently installed throughout Kuala Lumpur. The proposed command centre aims to enhance operational efficiency in monitoring and responding to security incidents and managing traffic flow.

Yeoh stated that, while DBKL possesses smart CCTVs, there is a significant reliance on police presence to ensure smooth traffic operations. She shared these remarks following the distribution of information and communications technology (ICT) equipment at the Sentul District Police Headquarters.

Furthermore, RM60,000 has been allocated for ICT equipment at Sentul IPD and its affiliated police stations. An additional RM100,000 has been designated to support logistics costs for police personnel participating in DBKL-organized programs.

Sentul police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam noted that the new ICT system will expedite public services, particularly in processing police reports. Yeoh highlighted the essential collaboration between DBKL and the police for handling events in the capital, including road closures and crime prevention efforts.
