Terengganu: The Terengganu chapter of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has presented 12 governance improvement recommendations to the state's Social Welfare Department (JKM) concerning the management of the Home Repair Assistance (BMR) programme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Commission stated that the recommendations arose from its 2024 Governance Investigation Report on JKM's handling of the BMR process. The proposed improvements are aimed at enhancing the transparency and accountability of the programme.
The recommendations include the development of guidelines for BMR management and payments, the introduction of a checklist form for supporting documents, the issuance of approval notification letters, and the standardisation of formats for payment instructions and work completion verification.
All 12 recommendations were presented by Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid to Terengganu JKM director Mazura Ngah Abd Manan during the signing ceremony of the Governance Improvement Agreement at the Terengganu MACC headquarters today. Mazura welcomed the proposals and agreed to take corrective measures to address the identified weaknesses. Hazrul Shazreen noted that the recommendations aim to ensure more transparent, accountable, and standardised financial governance practices, while closing gaps that could lead to corruption, misconduct, or abuse of power.
